GREE is surely in need of hit titles at the moment. While I don’t think that city-building sim Animal Days will become an evergreen, things are different with a third-party title that has been just unveiled (for GREE only).
Users in Japan can now pre-register for “One Piece – Adventure Log”, the second social game based on the impossibly popular One Piece manga and anime series. Maker Bandai Namco, whose social games have a combined audience of 30 million people, hasn’t fixed an exact release date yet.
Details are relatively scarce at the moment, but One Piece – Adventure Log has been categorized as a “sea battle RPG” that (obviously) uses characters and scenarios from the manga. Sign of the times: it will not be released on feature phones.
In any case, with this kind of IP (probably the most valuable you can get in Japan at the moment) and Bandai Namco’s expertise in making social games, GREE is sure to have a winner when this title hits their platform. One Piece – Grand Collection, which was released on Mobage early last year, currently counts over 4 million users, and it’s still going very strong.
