Another Financial Year, Another Record For The Pokemon Company

A

It is widely believed that Pokemon is the biggest entertainment brand of all time, and The Pokemon Company again shows why.

You can find last year’s numbers here, and now the Japanese government’s official gazette followed up with the financials for the fiscal that ended on February 29 this year:

  • Net sales: 298 billion yen (US$1.9B) + 27% on the year on a yen basis
  • Operating profit: 89 billion yen (US$570M) + 33%
  • Net profit: 63 billion yen (US400M) + 28%

The numbers may appear low to you in dollar terms with the reason being the extreme weakness of the Japanese yen at the time of writing.

Furthermore, as The Pokemon Company is private, we also don’t know what kind of financial engineering, specific agreements or other shenanigans between them and their owners may or may not play a role in the background.

Nintendo holds 32% of voting rights in The Pokemon Company, while the other two owners are Creatures Inc. and Game Freak Co., Ltd.
