King is continuing to take Japan seriously, it seems.
The company started running an advertising campaign on Japanese TV for Candy Crush in December 2013, before setting up King Japan in Tokyo and launching a second TV ad campaign for the same game earlier this year.
The simple reason: Japan is still the only country in the world where mobile games are regularly being advertised on television – nation-wide, in heavy rotation, and during prime-time.
No game can become really big in Japan without using this marketing tool.
And today, King Japan followed up with a third campaign on national TV, this time for Farm Heroes Saga.
The Japanese version of the game, which is called Farm Hero, was released at the end of May and has not been doing as well as Candy Crush so far: it peaked at No. 48 in the grossing chart on iOS (now No. 81) and at No. 44 on Android (now No. 48).
As with the first two campaigns, King Japan has chosen a celebrity to star in the 15- and 30-second spots (there are two each). This time, it’s singer and model Kaela Kimura.
I understand she also sings the song that’s played in the commercials.
Here is one of the two Japanese Farm Heroes Saga TV spots that lasts 15 seconds:
