As its big competitor, Mobage operator DeNA (2432), GREE (3632) is still waiting for its first big hit on smartphones.
Today, GREE’s new subsidiary “Wright Flyer Studios”, which was established earlier this year, is trying again with a new app.
“Ten To Daichi Megami No Mahou” (roughly: “Magic Of The Goddess Of Heaven And Earth”) is now available for download in the Japanese App Store and on Google Play.
And just like Wright Flyer’s first game, action game Shoumetsu Toshi (iOS/Android), this new title impresses with its high production value.
In contrast to Shoumetsu Toshi, however, Ten To Daichi is not focused on action but will immediately remind one of Clash Of Clans and similar titles.
It’s essentially a real-time strategy game that requires users to build bases, choose and train different hero characters, attack other bases, etc.
A key point is the strong multi-player element, which allows up to four users to cooperate in battle simultaneously, in real-time, and on one screen. What’s interesting is that players can also chat with each other by using phrases chosen via a slide-out menu on the right side of the screen.
Another key difference to Clash Of Clans is that Ten To Daichi, in true Japanese style, puts more emphasis on the hero characters that appear in the game. These characters have different strengths and weaknesses, can be leveled up and use special skills during battle.
And needless to say, Ten To Daichi is designed in a way that’s more appealing to a Japanese user base, voice acting by a number of famous anime voice artists included.
