AKB48 Stage Fighter, the first social game featuring Japanese girl group sensation AKB48 was released on GREE in October 2011 and went on to, partly fueled by TV advertising, become a big hit (it’s still popular today).
And today Bandai Namco released the second AKB48-themed social game on GREE, namely AKB0048 Galaxy Cinderella.
Just like Stage Figher, Galaxy Cinderella is essentially a card game, but Bandai Namco is using illustrations for the cards instead of real photographs: after all, the game is based on AKB0048, a TV anime series that (kind of) stars characters from the band.
Bandai Namco is also famous for their “idol-raising” games (here‘s a social version that’s still doing well on Mobage) so the company decided to mix card battle elements with those found in the genre that it is already familiar with.
So in AKB0048 Galaxy Cinderalla, players take on the roles of producers and need to “raise” (train) a group of 5 different girls to become stars using battles, missions, or lessons. Very clever, and given the AKB48 background, this actually makes sense.
AKB0048 Galaxy Cinderalla is now live on GREE for Japanese feature phones and smartphones.
