GREE today announced plans to establish GREE Canada, a wholly owned subsidiary, in Vancouver. The company cites two reasons for the location: the vicinity to a number of other game makers (and personnel) and the fact that both Vancouver and Silicon Valley are in the same time zone.
GREE doesn’t give more details (even the launch date of the new office is unclear) but does say that GREE Canada will work closely with the team in California.
In April this year, GREE acquired a stake in IUGO, a mobile game maker from Vancouver, but it’s unclear how that deal and the launch of the Canada office are connected.
Mobage operator DeNA opened an office in the same city in February this year (DeNA Studios Canada Ltd.).
