CyberAgent, through its subsidiary CyberAgent Ventures, invested in Vietnam-based smartphone game maker Colorbox (terms of the deal weren’t disclosed). The startup was founded in 2009 and is headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City.
This is CyberAgent’s second deal with a game maker in a row: just a few days ago, the company acquired 70% of Tokyo-based game studio R-Force.
CyberAgent explains their Vietnam deal (this is their English):
Recently, the use of the Internet from smart phones is rapidly growing in the Vietnamese market. We believe that ColorBox has potential to become successful both in their domestic and overseas market by taking advantage of their game developing capability (their developing game title called “Rip Off“ was ranked #2 at highest in Apple’s App Store in the U.S.) and their cost competitiveness.
Colorbox isn’t CyberAgent’s first Vietnam investment: the company previously bought stakes in an E-Commerce portal and an ad agency, for example.
