DeNA has announced that Mobage will be pre-installed on Sharp’s next Android cell phone, the so-called AQUOS PHONE THE HYBRID 101SH.
The phone is part of mobile carrier SoftBank’s fall and winter line-up this year. As you can see in the picture below, Android 2.3 is baked into a waterproof feature phone body (but features like the 3.4-inch touch display, 8MP CMOS camera, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, infrared, digital TV tuner, e-wallet function, etc. show this is actually a smartphone).
Sharp is Japan’s biggest cell phone maker (about 25% market share), while SoftBank is the country’s No. 3 mobile carrier.
The handset will go on sale in Japan tomorrow. It’s the first Softbank Android phone with Mobage pre-installed.
