Recently IPO’d social gaming company Klab announced that Captain Tsubasa, a soccer-themed social game, has hit the 1.5 million user mark. The title is part of a bigger trend in Japan, namely using famous anime and manga brands as a thematic and graphic background for social games.
In the case of Captain Tsubasa, Klab is licensing a globally famous soccer anime and manga from the 1980s.
The game is available on Mobage for Japanese feature phones, Yahoo Mobage on the PC and Nico Nico Appli, the application platform of popular Japanese video service Nico Nico Douga (more info).
Klab also announced they are planning to roll out a Captain Tsubasa native app for Mobage on smartphones (so far, the game is available through the smartphone browser only).
