Yahoo Japan, the country’s biggest website, and major convenience store chain Lawson have signed a deal under which the companies will promote each other’s products and services.
First, Lawson will establish a virtual shopping mall selling many of their own products plus items listed on Yahoo Japan Shopping from August this year. In the real world, Lawson stores will begin offering products that are especially popular on Yahoo’s shopping site.
Second, both companies will start offering a special smartphone app in December that will help users to locate the nearest Lawson store in their vicinity via GPS. Those users will also get coupons and other information on products sold in Lawson stores onto their phones.
Lawson is also partnering with Facebook Japan in their Facebook Check-In Coupon service.
