Japan’s biggest website, Yahoo Japan, has announced a new location-based service called Yahoo Loco yesterday. It’s actually not an entirely new site, as Yahoo Loco mashes up a total of seven different existing Yahoo Japan services, for example Yahoo Maps, Yahoo Coupons or Yahoo Gourmet.
Yahoo Japan says their new LBS is Japan’s biggest, whatever that may mean.
Yahoo Loco enables Yahoo Japan to make use of these services all at once and based on their current location. Certain information, for example restaurants or stores users find interesting in their vicinity, can be bookmarked to be easily accessed again at a later time (“keep” function).
What’s interesting is that restaurants and stores can send information or discount vouchers to users who have bookmarked (“kept”) them. Businesses can claim and set up own pages on Yahoo Loco for free (including pictures, videos, and other information).
Yahoo Loco is available on the web, Japanese feature phones, and smartphones (iPhone app, Android app).
