Seattle-based gaming company Popcap has been active in Japan (through a Tokyo-based country manager) for quite a while now, but the company has just announced its first title to be actually released by its Tokyo office.
In fact, Pop Tower, a puzzle game, is the first mobile social game Popcap as a whole has ever made. The company chose Square Enix subsidiary Taito to help them launch the title on GREE earlier this week.
From the press release:
Pop Tower launches with a custom-built social adaptation of PopCap’s flagship global game brand Bejeweled® – with Chuzzle® and Zuma® due to follow shortly. The Pop Tower editions of PopCap classics feature all-new game modes and social elements that allow Japanese users to interact with friends. The service is tied together with an all-new metagame with RPG elements that sees players rescue PopCap’s beloved game characters to restore beauty to the land.
The game is exclusively available on GREE for Japanese feature phones.
