Kakaku.com, Japan’s leading price comparison engine, announced it has inked a deal with the Japanese government under which the company will provide price data to the Bank of Japan.
Kakaku said it has provided a data set on how prices of TVs and related products in Japan have evolved over the last four years to the bank (which has already used that data in the calculation of a price index released last week).
It’s not clear what kind of revenue the company is generating with this deal, but it’s certainly positive for Kakaku’s image as Japan’s household name for price information.
Kakaku has been providing data on domestic sales of TV, computers, and other electronics to Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications since last year.
The company also sells data to universities and research bodies.
