Facebook Japan still has one or two things to learn about the local social media scene, it seems. Tokyo-based tech blog Asiajin (I am a writer) is reporting that a few decisions made by Facebook leave the Japanese confused about the company’s terms of use.
Facebook is trying to enforce the “real name” concept in Japan, a country whose web users are known to prefer anonymity online (even though this has been changing lately).
Here is the article on Asiajin.
PS
Little known fact: Mixi and GREE started out as “real name” social networks, too, but changed their policies later. Now well over 90% of Mixi users, for example, use nicknames and no real profile pictures.
